Exploring the Types of Beer
Beer is a diverse and exciting beverage, with a wide array of styles to suit every taste. Whether you're a seasoned beer connoisseur or just starting to explore, understanding the different types of beer can enhance your drinking experience. Here’s a quick guide to some of the most popular beer styles:
1. Lagers
Lagers are known for their clean, crisp taste and smooth finish. They are fermented at cooler temperatures, which gives them a refreshing, easy-drinking quality. Popular varieties include Pilsners, Helles, and Bocks.
2. Ales
Ales are brewed with top-fermenting yeast, resulting in a more complex and fruity flavor profile. They tend to be more robust than lagers, with varieties like Pale Ales, IPAs (India Pale Ales), and Belgian Ales offering a wide range of bitterness, spice, and sweetness.
3. Stouts and Porters
These darker beers are rich and full-bodied, often featuring flavors of coffee, chocolate, and caramel. Stouts and porters are perfect for those who enjoy a bold, robust beer, with popular styles including Milk Stouts, Oatmeal Stouts, and English Porters.
4. Wheat Beers
Made with a large proportion of wheat, these beers are often cloudy and have a light, refreshing taste. Wheat beers can range from the citrusy and spicy flavors of a Hefeweizen to the smooth and mellow taste of a Witbier.
5. Sour Beers
Sour beers are intentionally brewed to have a tart, tangy flavor, with styles like Berliner Weisse, Gose, and Lambics offering a unique twist for adventurous beer drinkers.
With so many options to choose from, there’s a beer style for every palate. Next time you crack open a cold one, take a moment to explore the flavors and history behind the brew!

What is Beer?
Beer is one of the oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic beverages in the world. Made from four basic ingredients—water, malted barley, hops, and yeast—beer undergoes a fermentation process where yeast converts sugars in the malted barley into alcohol and carbon dioxide, creating the familiar bubbles we love.
Beer comes in many varieties, from light and crisp lagers to rich, full-bodied stouts, offering a wide range of flavors, aromas, and textures. Hops add bitterness and aroma, balancing the sweetness of the malt, while different brewing techniques and ingredients can introduce unique tastes.
Whether enjoyed casually with friends, paired with a meal, or sipped slowly to savor the flavors, beer is a versatile drink with a deep history and global appeal.

The Art of Beer Making: A Brewed Tradition
Beer has a rich history, dating back thousands of years, and the process of making it is nothing short of a craft. At its core, beer is made from just four simple ingredients: water, malted barley, hops, and yeast. First, the barley is malted and mashed to release sugars, which the yeast will later turn into alcohol. Then, hops are added for that signature bitter flavor and aroma. After boiling and fermenting, the magic happens, turning raw ingredients into the refreshing beverage we all know and love. Whether you're sipping a crisp lager or a bold IPA, every beer tells a story of tradition, innovation, and craftsmanship. So next time you enjoy a cold one, take a moment to appreciate the art and history behind every sip!

The Brewing Process: How Beer Is Made
Beer, one of the world’s oldest and most popular beverages, is crafted through a fascinating process that transforms simple ingredients into a refreshing drink. The process begins with malting, where grains, usually barley, are soaked, germinated, and dried to develop the sugars needed for fermentation.
Next comes brewing, where malted barley is mixed with water and heated to create a mash. This mash is then boiled with hops, which add bitterness and aroma, balancing the sweetness from the malt. After boiling, the mixture is cooled and yeast is added. The yeast consumes the sugars in the mash, producing alcohol and carbon dioxide—this stage is called fermentation.
The beer is then aged to allow the flavors to develop and mature, before being filtered and packaged for you to enjoy. From malting to fermentation, every step in the brewing process plays a part in shaping the unique flavors and characteristics of the final product. Cheers to that!

January Beer Spotlight : Ligers Blood
"What are you drawing? A Liger! What’s a Liger? It’s pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed, bred for its skills and magic!"
Here at SBC we love paying tribute to things tied to some of our favorite memories, specifically nostalgic memories. This beer name is an example of just that! Referencing the Liger from one of my favorite cult classic comedies, “Napoleon Dynamite." Mixed with one of my favorite and most delicious snowcone flavors “Tigers Blood.” Is how “Ligers Blood" was born. Introducing our new jam packed sour! We start with our ever so delicious tart base and then just engulf it in pounds of Watermelon, Strawberry, and Coconut Purees! This beer is absolutely gushing with flavor. You get the sweet jam-like flavors from the strawberries, mixed with the refreshing yet tart watermelon, and then the fluffy coconut that just ties it all together giving it that creamy mouthfeel. This beer is a summer treat in a glass! So come on down, grab your spouse, grab your jackets, and enjoy a little sip of summer!
Cheers!
